“Free Fridays” Concert Series Presents Ricky Kendall and the Healers July 15
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The “Free Fridays” concert series features Ricky Kendall and the Healers at 8 p.m. Friday, July 15 at the Bo Diddley Plaza.
Ricky Kendall and the Healers formed in early 2012 out of a necessity to perform for a CD release of Kendall’s album "Soul Searching." They ended up working well together, and gaining notoriety as a band. Michael Claytor was added as a banjo player, and Sam Moss was added as background vocalist. The two both drive different parts of the music, as Claytor is also an accomplished songwriter, and Moss is a vocal powerhouse. Kendall and Claytor’s songs range from gunfighter ballads to spiritual songs of awakening and sometimes just good old fashioned love songs. The mix of country, folk, R&B and soul lends itself to many different moods and subject matter that comes from the heart.
The musicians include Ricky Kendall (guitar/vocals), Michael Claytor (banjo/vocals), Sam Moss (vocals), Jared Groom (drums), Jon Alexander (pedal steel), Ryan Baker (keyboards) and Ashley Wilkinson (bass).
The 2016 “Free Fridays” concert series is produced by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department and funded in part by grants from Alachua County’s Visit Gainesville and the State of Florida’s Culture Builds Florida. The concerts play each Friday night this year from Friday, May 6 through Friday, Oct. 21 from 8-10 p.m. at the Bo Diddley Plaza, at 111 E. University Ave. in downtown Gainesville.
