GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The “Free Fridays” Concert Series presents a tribute to the music of Jackson Brown Friday, May 18 from 8-10 p.m. at the Bo Diddley Plaza. The public is invited to bring their blankets and lawn chairs to our beautiful downtown amphitheater and enjoy this free concert under the stars.
Local musician Mick Marino is the organizer of the “Free Fridays” Jackson Brown tribute. He has also organized the annual GramFest, which celebrates the music of country rock inventor Gram Parsons, since 1999. In past years, Marino has put together some of “Free Fridays’” most popular tribute concerts, covering the music of the Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, The Rolling Stones, The Band, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
The Jackson Brown tribute concert opens with the duo Jim Evans (guitar/vocals) and Gregg Doles (guitar/vocals), followed by Uncle Mosie with Dana Myers (vocals), Scott Ashcraft (guitar/vocals), Andrew Cook (fiddle/vocals), Noah Shitama (keys/vocals) and Brian Turk (bass). The Mick Marino Allstars play the last hour with Mick Marino (guitar/vocals), Mark Miale (guitar/vocals), Tony McMahon (guitar), Brad Bangstad (keys) and Bob Kelly (drums).
American singer/songwriter and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Jackson Brown is a six-time Grammy award nominee and has sold more than 18 million albums in the U.S. alone. He is 37th on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. According to Marino, "Jackson Brown is probably the most sensitive songwriter ever to exist, and his lyrics are pure poetry that describes our human condition and exposes our souls like no other. And his songs can still make you dance when he wants to. His ‘Late for the Sky’ album is one of the greatest masterpieces in our time. It is like the novel of our lives."
The Jackson Brown tribute is one of the select “Free Fridays” classic rock concerts that is sponsored by classic rock radio station WIND-FM (92.5, 95.5, 107.9).
