"Free Fridays" Gilberto De Paz & Tropix (Latin Fusion)

The City of Gainesville’s “Free Fridays” Concert Series and the Gainesville Latino Film Festival (GLFF) have partnered to bring the Gainesville community an incredible Latin night with “el maestro de la salsa” Gilberto de Paz and Tropix Friday, Sept. 27 from 8-10 p.m.

 Tropix is a tropical fusion band based in Gainesville, Florida. The band has its roots in the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, and performs music from all over Latin America and Spain, along with American standards. From merengue and salsa, bachata and cumbia, to disco and ballads, crossover bilingual songs and everything in between, Tropix entertains you with a variety of Latin sounds. Tropix includes band leader Gilberto de Paz (piano/vocals/guitar), Waldemar Cabrera (vocals/guitar/percussion), Laura de Paz Cabrera

(vocals), Bruni Gonzales de Paz (vocals/percussion), Jose “Joe” Rivera Cepeda  (timbales/percussion/trumpet/back vocals) and Sebastion de Paz (congas/bass/percussion).

As part of Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month, the Gainesville Latino Film Festival features a series of free film screenings, musical performances, public lectures and panel discussions throughout the month of September. It is hosted and organized by the Latina Women’s League of Gainesville, and is one of Gainesville’s biggest and most diverse international cultural events. Dedicated to developing, promoting and increasing awareness of Latino cultures, the GLFF’s mission is to create a cultural dialogue amongst Latinos and non-Latinos to discuss universal, cross-cultural experiences.
